Liver, Gallbladder, Bile Duct and Pancreas Care
The liver does a great deal of quiet work. It filters the blood, stores energy, produces the proteins that allow blood to clot, and processes most of what we eat, drink and take as medication. Because it has spare capacity, it can keep doing that work while disease is developing — which is why a liver problem is often picked up in a routine blood test rather than because someone felt unwell.
The Alliance Liver Care Center brings the assessment, treatment and follow-up of liver, gallbladder, bile duct and pancreatic conditions together in one place, so that a patient is seen, investigated and reviewed by the same team rather than across separate and unconnected appointments.
Common Reasons for Referral
- Fatty liver disease
- Hepatitis B and C
- Liver cirrhosis
- Gallstones and gallbladder disease
- Jaundice
- Bile duct obstruction
- Pancreatitis
- A liver lesion found on a scan
When to Seek Advice
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
- Persistent pain in the upper abdomen
- Ongoing tiredness or weakness
- Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
- Swelling of the abdomen or legs
- Dark urine or pale stools
- Nausea that does not settle
- An abnormal liver blood test
None of the above means liver disease on its own, and most have ordinary explanations. They are worth a conversation rather than worry: the earlier a liver problem is looked at, the more of the liver’s own capacity to recover is still available.
