Haematology deals with the blood and bone marrow — the cells themselves and the proteins that make blood clot.
Conditions we manage
- Anaemia, including iron deficiency and thalassaemia
- Low platelets and abnormal bruising or bleeding
- Clotting disorders and thrombosis
- Abnormal blood counts found on routine testing
- Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma
- Transfusion assessment
Investigation
Most assessment starts with a full blood count and a film examined under the microscope. Bring previous blood results if you have them; the trend over time is often more informative than one value.
Seek help promptly for
Bleeding that will not stop, widespread unexplained bruising, fever with a very low blood count, or a painful swollen leg with breathlessness.
