This service treats disease of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas. These operations are technically demanding and depend on careful imaging and assessment beforehand.
Conditions we manage
- Gallstones, including stones that have moved into the bile duct
- Bile duct obstruction and jaundice
- Liver cysts, abscesses and tumours
- Acute and long-standing pancreatitis
- Pancreatic masses
- Liver injury after trauma
Before surgery
Expect detailed imaging and blood tests assessing liver function and clotting. Where a duct is blocked, drainage sometimes comes before definitive surgery so the liver recovers first.
Seek urgent care for
Yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine with pale stools, severe pain in the upper abdomen going through to the back, or fever with abdominal pain.
