Our cardiology consultants see patients referred by their own doctor and patients coming directly to the outpatient clinic. A first appointment usually covers your history and symptoms, an examination, and any bedside tests needed to reach a working diagnosis the same day.
Conditions we assess and manage
- Chest pain, breathlessness on exertion and palpitations
- High blood pressure and raised cholesterol
- Coronary artery disease, including follow-up after a heart attack
- Heart failure and cardiomyopathies
- Irregular heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation
- Valve disease and congenital heart conditions in adults
Tests available on site
Cardiac investigations are carried out in our Radiology & Imaging department, so most patients complete their tests during the same visit.
- 12 Channel ECG — a recording of the heart’s electrical activity, taking a few minutes
- 2D / 4D Echocardiogram — ultrasound imaging of the heart chambers and valves
- Echo Color Doppler — measures the direction and speed of blood flow through the heart
- Duplex Study — assesses blood flow in the arteries and veins of the neck, arms and legs
When to seek advice sooner
Chest pain that spreads to the arm, neck or jaw, sudden severe breathlessness, or fainting are emergencies. Do not wait for an outpatient appointment — come to the hospital or call an ambulance.
