If surgery is advised
You will be told what the operation involves, the likely recovery time, and the specific risks in your case, before you are asked to consent. Ask what would happen if you chose not to have it — that is a reasonable question and the answer is part of the decision.
Go to the emergency department if
You have severe abdominal pain with fever or vomiting, or a hernia that becomes hard, painful and cannot be pushed back.
